Song History & Lyrics:

Beat Down

History: This is the origin of the Morning Announcements. In a effort to create something new, explicitly for the band, a simple catchy tune with some dynamic cover involvement was created. It has been consistently a crowd pleaser for our show conclusion. Isn’t that right Mickey?

Lyrics:
I set off, on my way
I’m gonna spend my time a making the best of my day
Turn up, that tune
I’m gonna show you what you miss ‘cause you’re leaving too soon
Chorus
Not many know what to do
Or afraid to try something new
Once I was just like you
But now I think you’ll see…just what you wanted
I feel I’ve thrown the beat down X4 (hands up, one time)
I set off, on my way
I’m gonna spend my time a making the best of my day Turn up, that song
I’m gonna show you how to work it all night long
Chorus
Not many know what to do
Or afraid to try something new
Once I was just like you
But now I think you’ll see…just what you wanted
I feel I’ve thrown the beat down X4 (hands up, one time)

Chill Out

History: An afternoon spent at Nickel Beach, is the inspiration for this song. Simply an unexpected trip to the beach, some unexpected fun, and the result is a hooky pop tune. Basically follows the exploits of this groupdof buddies having a good time at the beach, while trying to find some drinks, playing games and having some fun. It’s a summer song!

Lyrics:
You can smell it in the air
summer beating down, lounging in the lawn chair
I follow the rules with a drink in my hand
Friends drop by just to tell me what’s up
T & V’s are handed round and we drink from the cup Let’s head to the beach and have some fun in the sand
Chorus
In the sun, where the one’s, plan a run, to get some booze, but what to choose at the store, to drink hardcore, while we’re playing our game, it’s the same as it ever was – come and chill out
Not a fear, only here, where the beer, is nice and cold, I am told, that our friends, come again to remember the laugh of another summer photograph – it’s what we’re about
(In summer time, we all chill out in…)
Now that I’m laying back
Kick off my shoes and we bust out some hack Only rule is there must be a drink in your hand Everyone you gotta love those summer clothes
Checking them out from there heads to their toes
Give a whistle, call’em over will have some fun in the sand
Chorus
In the sun, where the one’s, plan a run, to get some booze, but what to choose at the store, to drink hardcore, while we’re playing our game, it’s the same as it ever was – come and chill out
Not a fear, only here, where the beer, is nice and cold, I am told, that our friends, come again to remember the laugh of another summer photograph – it’s what we’re about
(In summer time, we all chill out in…)
Over years, it is clear that friends come and go
but there’ll always be those summer cheers, don’t you know Everybody comes together for the summer flame
Sing alongs, with the songs that we always do
Put aside those wrongs between me and you
but in this moment, I’d wish it’d never change

Movie Of Your Life

History: A song that has been sitting on the shelf for over 4 years and was dismissed by my previous band, Durden, Movie Of Your Life is about the process of growing up and the enlightenment of a good life compared to a bad life. Written during a recent death in the family, the music celebrates rather than wallows in the fact that life is what you make of it.

Lyrics:
Act one always starts when you’re crawling on the floor You take your first steps and this always comes before Open your mouth to all that, always laying flat back Can not wait to set a foot outside the door
Turn the page and you will see me with my friends Taking turns we jump high into the deep end
Some will float and sink in, others been caught thinking About the times where we would always try to pretend
Chorus
It’s like a picture perfect movie
Without the sound it always fades to black and white
But you’re the only one who’s viewing
So make the choice, express your voice in the Movie Of Your Life
Then a day will come where I’m part of the scene Not a kid no more, I’m somewhere inbetween Feel the need to fit in, I think that I have biten
Off more than I can chew to be sixteen
Chorus
It’s like a picture perfect movie
Without the sound it always fades to black and white
But you’re the only one who’s viewing
So make the choice, express your voice in the Movie Of Your Life
Sitting down and looking back upon my past Now I’m working hard, it seemed to go so fast Never stop to regret, until it’s on your last breath Then you know that you can say you had a blast
Chorus
It’s like a picture perfect movie
Without the sound it always fades to black and white
But you’re the only one who’s viewing
So make the choice, express your voice in the Movie Of Your Life X2

The Red, The White, The Feel

History:  Sitting at one of our first shows, our previous drummer, nicknamed Gibby had been singing these ‘who ohs’ over and over again.  When asked if he could to do this while playing his drums, he said no problem.  Ironically his next show would be his last, as he  moved to the big city of Toronto, and for that show The Red, The White, The Feel was performed in a rudimentary stage titled at the time as Gibby’s Anthem.  Then while struggling with the lyrics, I considered writing a song about being a proud Canadian.  The rest is history.

Lyrics:

You say you want to be my friend
Rolling up the rim to find you’re trying again
Where 2, tatoo’s, representing our home
There’s no other place that I’d rather go…like here

Chorus
And all I say is Yeah
But all I hear is Hey, Hey…yeah
The Red, The White, The Feel…yeah

You say our beer is just like moonshine
Staying up all night, drink it up ‘till noontime
Puck drops, less talk on a Saturday night
There’s no other place that’s gonna feel so right…so cheers

Chorus
And all I say is Yeah
But all I hear is Hey, Hey…yeah
The Red, The White, The Feel…yeah

On The Mellower Side (The MA’s songs that you might not  usually hear)

There’s No Taking Me Back

History: This song is one of my first ever to be written.  It finds two people in a relationship, wondering what it might be like if a reconciliation ever did occur.  The lyrics tell the tale.

Lyrics:

Slow me, I am, I can’t take my thoughts here anymore
It’s all, been done, it’s been said for and I can’t change it
Can I, make up, the things that harmed you deep inside yourself
Broke down, and I can not change a word

In this time, everythings fine

Chorus
I wanna run away and keep on moving on
There’s no turning ‘round to see how I’ve been wrong
If I could make amends for all the things I’ve done
I would, but I know there’s no taking me back

Still slow, I know, but your face has come and gone
Saw you, once more, but I can’t think of what to say
Can’t we, just talk, I want to remember who you are
You’ve changed, so have I, it will never be the same

In this time, everythings fine

Chorus
I wanna run away and keep on moving on
There’s no turning ‘round to see how I’ve been wrong
If I could make amends for all the things I’ve done
I would, but I know there’s no taking me back X2

Easier Said Than Done

History: This song simply talks about the ways that you say that you are going to change something you dislike about what you do, but don’t for some reason or another.

Lyrics:

Everyone has a vice or two like you
But we all know what we should do
Instead we stay the same not change
Is there really someone else to blame
I could get a move’on or improve’on
myself but there’s no way
I’m waking up to find me say
that today is not, not that day

Chorus
I’m gonna run that 5 minute mile, I’m gonna start to smile
At everyone I meet
I’m gonna eat all that healthy food, have the right attitude
I’m gonna offer someone else a seat
I’m gonna return that important call, gonna write them all
Get back to each and every one
I’m gonna take my busy time, but I know you’ll find
it’s easier said than done

Everyone has a wish or dream inbetween
but now I just say what I mean
I’ve been working hard so far
To find out who we really are
I could get a shaking or a making that shelf
but there’s no way
I’m waking up to find me say
that today is not that precious day

Chorus
I’m gonna run that 5 minute mile, I’m gonna start to smile
At everyone I meet
I’m gonna eat all that healthy food, have the right attitude
I’m gonna offer someone else a seat
I’m gonna return that important call, gonna write them all
Get back to each and every one
I’m gonna take my busy time, but I know you’ll find
it’s easier said than done

I’m the one the only one, that hasn’t begun
It’s easier said than done

A Long Time To Waste

History: A former Durden song, A Long Time To Waste was written previous to my excursion out west. It was played and worked upon while spending time in the mountains and once added to the m.a.’s line up, yet again changed to a form that let’s you realize that it’s now or never to take that chance to do what you really want.

Lyrics:
Hit the ground running all at one time
And if we did it much faster I’d be just fine Tearing away going down that road
Of faith and trust of all I’ve known
Take back what has been down before
and I won’t settle down until I even the score Hurt by love all in one place
and I will not hide away in disgrace
Chorus
If I wanted to be that way, then stand up next to me
Grab my head and give it a shake, ‘cause I’m not that crazy Sit me down and buy me a round, and put me in my place If you can do this for me, well… It’s a Long Time To Waste
Bleach the impurities out from your skin Try to mask all the places you’ve been Hammer the mold with the hardest weight Everyone can’t dine from a silver plate
Chorus
If I wanted to be that way, then stand up next to me
Grab my head and give it a shake, ‘cause I’m not that crazy Sit me down and buy me a round, and put me in my place If you can do this for me, well… It’s a Long Time To Waste
